With the school year starting, I want this as a poster on my office door for our high school students, especially the seniors who are already totally stressing about course expectations, college admissions and the demands of daily living. Thanks for bringing this lighthearted approach to good living into my day - I will look forward to sharing this perspective with my students! It's all about finding the beauty and fun in our world!

Thomas Frank's first book "The Conquest of Cool" also deals extensively with this campaign. In it he makes the argument that this is where we see the turning point in American advertising, from a fairly straight "gets teeth whiter" or "three out of four doctors recommend" approach to the (now pervasive) association of brands with the central American myth of individualism, rebellion, and freedom. He paints a disturbing portrait of "hip consumerism" where we are sold the idea that we can buy our way to individuality and self-expression through the mass-produced consumer products we choose. (Think of the William S Borroughs Nike ad... Or the HP ad with the fixie rider doing tricks. Or any Apple ad ever made.) It's a good read.

I have felt it before with your color palettes, but really got why I like them through your maps. I too love a map, but often feel overwhelmed by all the info. on them. Your color palette grounds the image for me, which allows me to focus in on specific details. Thanks for digging them up and sharing. I have just ordered a map from www.adventuremaps.net, a small family owned company producing water proof and tear proof maps for mountain biking and hiking in the Western states. My goal is to paddle around lake Tahoe and hike as much as I can of the rim tail!

I feel the same way about maps... but could not have put it so eloquently. I recently watched this BBC series, which had some fascinating bits and which you might enjoy too if it's ever being shown where you are :)

Great colour palettes as always - I particularly like the first one (both map and palette!).

Totally thought of Margaret when you came up with this idea to showcase artists in the industry! Beautiful paintings Margaret! I can't wait for my current project to wrap up so I have some time to sew and create for ME!

Thanks Susanna! The pink crystals are part of a gigantic Dale Chihuly glass sculpture that was on exhibit at the Bronx Botanical Garden a few years ago.
